L Haynes 14/03/2008 White Tail Disease has been found in farmed giant fresh water prawns in Queensland, Australia. A report to the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) said the disease has been caused by Machrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus. Infection is in the brood stock and F1 juveniles from aquaria in a research facility in Townsville. The wild brood stock were originally sourced from the Flinders River in North Queensland. The source of the outbreak is unknown at present.
