We have now sourced a copy of: Curran et al. (1999). Investigations of major epidemic mortality of macropods in the northern part of far western Queensland NSW in October 1998. This has now been converted into a pdf. We also now have copies of "Post flood die-off of kangaroos in south-western Queensland" Internal report DEH QLD (unpublished) (1990 - 1991)" by Tim Clancey, and Geoff Lundie-Jenkins has provided a copy of the EPA contingency plan for macropod die-offs for QLD. Tim, Greg and Geoff have very kindly allowed us to make these documents available to network subscribers who may have an interest in, or need to manage mortality events in these animals. They are dated, but do give useful insights and information about these events and on-the-ground considerations and management. They are large files and if anyone would like copies could they please contact us at awhn@zoo.nsw.gov.au.

Speare et al. (1989)(search our bibliography using Speare) talk about epidemic mortality in free-ranging macropods and present a table of "crashes", aetiology and stresses/ predisposing factors up to 1989. This is an interesting area, is poorly understood and needs more work. A good project for a student to take on. (The kangaroo industry is worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the Australian economy and a better handle on this area would be useful in helping protect and manage this industry.)
