Australia follows a number of protocols for transmission, submission and reporting on diagnostic specimens. These protocols have been developed and agreed upon by Australia's Animal Health Committee and help better manage information that may be required for management of emergency diseases specifically by: 1) Ensuring testing quality is appropriate and; 2) That information flows in a way that ensures that those who need to know about testing are informed in a timely way. This maximised both the confidence in the test result, and the ability to manage the incident concerned. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THESE PROTOCOLS ARE FOLLOWED FOR WILDLIFE in cases where: 1) Exotic or; 2) Emergency diseases are being excluded. These protocls should also be considered prior to designing wildlife disease research or surveillance activities in Australia.
